Growing up, she spent much of her youth marching around the neighborhood, twirling her baton, scream singing...”Jeremaiah was a bullfrog..” If she could get away with it, she’d probably still be doing that now.

Growing up, she spent much of her youth marching around the neighborhood, twirling her baton, scream singing...”Jeremaiah was a bullfrog..” If she could get away with it, she’d probably still be doing that now.

As a child, Scanlon recalls her mother commenting on her artwork, suggesting she might want to pursue art. At the time, nine or so, Scanlon was driven to pursue the thrill she felt when twirling her baton in front of a bunch of strangers, during competition, and headed toward NYC and the stage.

As an actor, Scanlon has had recurring roles on HBO’s GETTING ON, playing the quirky union rep Paula Pepperell, FX’s BETTER THINGS as the artsy friend of Pamela Adlon’s Sam and Ms. Cappriotti in Netfix’s I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS. Her play WHAT IS THIS EVERYTHING is published by Smith & Kraus, Best Plays Edition premiering at NY’s West Bank Cafe, starring James Gandolfini. During the height of the lockdown, a friend suggested Scanlon watch Portrait Artist of the Year on Sky Arts TV, as he said it related to the artistic process in all of its forms. Riveted by the physicality and the mystery of painting, the wild beauty and gentle force of it, Scanlon began drawing and painting again, pretty much daily. Starting with watercolors and then educating herself in the use of oils. Recently, Scanlon worked in person with one of her favorite artists, Alyssa Monks, at a painting workshop taught at the inaugural Willow Pond SLO retreat in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Scanlon combines her love of the theatrical with her love of painting, continually exploring the mystery of what it means to be a human being.
